Our paper, Null expectations for disease dynamics in shrinking habitat: dilution or amplification? is in the theme issue of Phil. Trans. R. Soc. B: ‘Conservation, biodiversity and infectious disease: scientific evidence and policy implications’.
Congratulations Maureen Kessler! Maureen just won a Fulbright Award to do a year of her PhD research in Australia.
Congratulations to Kezia for her newest publication accepted into the Journal of Animal Ecology!
Another impressive manuscript from Gerardo Martin! How microclimates affect Hendra virus survival.
We just completed a successful field season sampling flying foxes in Australia, studying links between migration, energetics, and virus dynamics.
A new paper on bat population dynamics, led by John Giles, out today. (link here)
Kezia Manlove had a paper accepted into Ecology: K. Manlove, E. F. Cassirer, P. C. Cross, R. K. Plowright, P. J. Hudson. Disease introduction is associated with a phase transition in bighorn sheep demographics. 2016. - Congratulations Kezia! (Click here to read the article.)
A new paper from our bighorn sheep team, lead by Frances Cassirer, published today. (Read the article here.)
We made the cover photo for PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases. Olivier Restif and Raina Plowright will be interviewed on the PLOS Ask Me Anything series Tuesday 6th September at 1pm EST.
Our paper on transmission vs. within host dynamics has been published in PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases! [Abstract] [Full-text]
Congratulations to Kezia — her paper on bighorn sheep population dynamics was just published in Ecology! [Abstract] [Full-text]
July 2016: Raina gave a talk at University of Glasgow in Scotland where they have one of the biggest groups of phenomenal disease ecologists.
This spring, Raina gave a talk on bat viruses at the Stanford University One Health Symposium as well as a “think and drink” presentation for their new Center for the new Stanford Program for Disease Ecology, Health, and the Environment.
As white-nose syndrome spreads from east to west, we aim to predict the susceptibility of western bat species so that managers can address their conservation needs.

I gave a seminar to the Department Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Members of the Johnson Lab were excellent hosts and I was impressed with the esprit de corps in the department at CU.
I gave a talk at the regional NIH IDeA meeting in Idaho and then traveled to Washington DC to help Sarah Olson, David Hayman and Liam McGuire present work on white nose syndrome to the Department of Defense.
Just returning from a fabulous week at the International Wildlife Disease Association meeting in Queensland Australia. A really spectacular line up of presentations and a wonderful group of people. I was very honored to give the opening plenary.
